Blackheart (Marvel Legends BAF)

Black heart is one of Marvel’s best-known supernatural villains

Blackheart is one of Marvel’s best-known supernatural villains, usually tied to Mephisto, Ghost Rider, Daredevil and Doctor Strange. As the demonic son of Mephisto, he has always had a strong comic presence, which makes him a natural fit for a larger Build-A-Figure release.

For collectors, Blackheart stands out because he brings a very different look to a Marvel Legends display. This is not just a taller figure with standard proportions. The sculpt leans into his monstrous design, with a broad frame, oversized limbs and a more creature-like appearance than the regular figures in the wave.

The 2024 Strange Tales wave suits him well. Its focus on Marvel’s darker supernatural side makes Blackheart feel like the centrepiece of the line rather than a random bonus build. For collectors who prefer horror, occult and supernatural characters, he is one of the more appealing recent Marvel Legends BAFs.

BUILD NOTES

  • Blackheart is built from six parts, even though the wave contains seven figures
  • Weapon of Vengeance Wolverine is the only figure in the wave that does not include a Blackheart part
  • Dracula and Lilith each include two Blackheart parts, so they are worth checking carefully when buying loose
  • If buying individual parts, make sure arm listings clearly show left or right side
  • Loose part listings can be vague, especially for the arms and hands
  • Because this is a newer Build-A-Figure, loose parts still appear regularly, but incomplete donor figures are common

DIFFICULTY & VALUE

Completion Difficulty: Medium

Blackheart is fairly achievable, but not always cheap to complete part by part. Because the Strange Tales wave is built around supernatural characters, many collectors bought only selected figures instead of the full set. That means loose parts are available, but not always in the cleanest or most cost-effective combinations.

Blackheart parts

The two-part donor figures are usually the ones to watch most closely, as missing one of those can slow the build down. For many collectors, buying a complete loose Blackheart can work out better value than sourcing every piece separately once postage is added up across multiple sellers.

As a rough guide, loose single parts usually sit in the lower aftermarket range, while a complete loose Blackheart tends to land in the mid collector range. Boxed figures and full wave purchases will naturally cost more. Overall, this is a medium-difficulty Marvel Legends BAF that is still realistic to complete without too much trouble.

WAVE OVERVIEW

The Strange Tales wave has a clear supernatural theme, which helps it feel more focused than a lot of mixed Marvel Legends assortments. The line-up includes Moon Knight, Bloodstorm, Brother Voodoo, Daimon Hellstrom, Lilith, Dracula and Weapon of Vengeance Wolverine, with Blackheart as the Build-A-Figure.

That theme works in Blackheart’s favour. Brother Voodoo and Daimon Hellstrom represent Marvel’s occult side, Dracula and Lilith push the horror angle, and Moon Knight adds a recognisable name without breaking the tone of the wave. Bloodstorm brings in an unusual alternate-universe character, while Weapon of Vengeance Wolverine still fits the darker style of the assortment even without contributing a BAF part.

As a result, Blackheart feels properly tied to the wave around him. For collectors building out Marvel’s supernatural shelf, he makes more sense as a display piece than many recent Build-A-Figures built from less connected assortments.
