As a fan of all things The Walking Dead, the latest figure drop has me buzzing with excitement. Diamond Select Toys (DST) has delivered again with the new The Walking Dead Comic Series 2 Deluxe Action Figure Set, bringing us two fan-favorite characters straight from the comic’s pages: Glenn and Negan.

Both figures are faithful to the art of the original The Walking Dead comics. Each 7-inch figure features 16 points of articulation, giving them excellent poseability, and includes some seriously cool accessories. Glenn is equipped with a riot shield, a gun, and a baton, while Negan wields his iconic baseball bat, Lucille. Both characters are heavily detailed, with sculpting and paintwork designed to look like they were ripped right from the inked pages of the comic.

What really makes this set stand out is the comic-inspired design. Unlike many action figures that stick to the TV show, these are modelled after the comic book versions of the characters, offering something unique for collectors who fell in love with The Walking Dead before it became a TV phenomenon.

The Walking Dead Comic Book Origins

For those who don’t know, The Walking Dead began as a comic book series long before it found its way to the small screen. Written by Robert Kirkman and illustrated by Tony Moore (with Charlie Adlard taking over later), the series made its debut in 2003. Spanning an impressive 193 issues, it ran until 2019, so there’s plenty of material to dive into for anyone interested in exploring the full breadth of this iconic story.

The comic series is known for being gritty and dark, with Kirkman’s writing masterfully pulling readers into a world filled with suspense, heartbreak, and an unrelenting sense of doom. It’s this intense storytelling, paired with Adlard’s stark, atmospheric imagery, that made The Walking Dead a standout comic—creating a world that feels as bleak as it is captivating.

Though many might assume the TV show came first, the comic actually paved the way. Debuting a full seven years before the show, the comic laid the groundwork for the franchise’s massive success. The TV adaptation didn’t hit the airwaves until Halloween of 2010, giving fans of the comic a long head start on experiencing the world of The Walking Dead in its original, raw form.

Glenn and Negan Get the Comic Book Treatment

What I love most about this set is how DST leaned into the comic book aesthetic. Glenn, looking all kinds of beat up, has that signature scrappy resilience that fans love. Negan, meanwhile, oozes menace with his smug grin and leather jacket. Seriously, the expressions on these figures are top-notch, and their accessories just add to the badassery.

Compared to some other figures I’ve recently covered, like the Red Hood from McFarlane’s DC Multiverse line, these are geared toward a more specific audience—hardcore The Walking Dead fans, particularly those who followed the comics. The level of care and accuracy in capturing the characters is similar, though, making both lines a must for any serious collector.

The Walking Dead Deluxe Action Figures: Worth the Buy?

In terms of collectability, I think the Comic Series 2 Deluxe Action Figure Set will hold its value quite well. With The Walking Dead franchise showing no signs of slowing down—whether it’s the comics, TV shows, or spin-offs—these figures tap into the nostalgia of the comics while still appealing to new fans.

The packaging is great for display too, with character art on the boxes that makes them look perfect on a shelf. Plus, with the articulation, you’re not just limited to displaying them statically. You can get creative with the poses, adding a bit more life to your collection.

If you’re into other comic-based figures like the Bushwacker and Punisher Marvel Legends 2-Pack, these will fit right in with your lineup. But be warned—these might steal the show with how dynamic and detailed they are!

Impressed by DST’s

Overall, I’m super impressed by DST’s work on this The Walking Dead action figure set. The combination of great articulation, detailed sculpts, and excellent accessories makes this a must-have for any collector. If you’re a fan of the comics, it’s a no-brainer. These figures are a perfect homage to the series that started it all.
