It looks like McFarlane Toys is making collectors drool again, this time with the Effigy Platinum Edition Figure. This one’s a nod to a lesser-known DC villain, Effigy, from DC Comics, and boy, does it pack some serious sculpting and attitude. With its Platinum Edition status, it’s part of McFarlane’s line of rare and chase figures—so good luck getting your hands on one!

The Latest Toy News: McFarlane Keeps DC Classics Alive

Effigy Gets New DC Comics Platinum Edition Figure from McFarlane Toys

McFarlane is known for keeping the DC classics alive, bringing us everything from well-known superheroes to more obscure villains like Effigy. While we’ve been spoiled by McFarlane’s more iconic releases like the Jokerized Batman and the mind-bending Question figure, this new Platinum figure of Effigy is a breath of fresh air for those of us who love deep-cut DC characters. (Side note: If you haven’t already, check out my post on The Question figure, which is another gem for mystery lovers.)

The Design: Flames and Serious Villain Vibes

Effigy Platinum Edition doesn't skimp on detail

This Effigy Platinum Edition doesn’t skimp on detail. From the images McFarlane Toys has released, Effigy is oozing with menace. His flame-sculpted air immediately grab your attention, as do his costume details—a fiery mix of red and black. The figure looks every bit the twisted antagonist who took on Green Lantern, and McFarlane’s team did a bang-up job bringing out that chaotic energy. I’m really digging how they’ve captured his power set with those translucent flame effects—totally makes him look like he’s in mid-battle.

Effigy (aka Martin van Wyck)

The articulation seems solid too, with McFarlane continuing their trend of giving these figures dynamic posing ability. Effigy’s got that confident villain stance down pat, and I can already imagine posing him to recreate some epic face-offs with other DC figures. Might have to set him up squaring off against my Jokerized Batman—because, let’s be honest, it’s not a true display without a villain showdown!

If you’re lucky enough to snag this Platinum Edition figure, it’ll stand out in your collection, no question. There’s just something about those extra paint details and unique sculpt that make these Platinum figures feel like treasures.

Who Is Effigy? A Brief DC Comics Backstory

For those unfamiliar with Effigy (aka Martin van Wyck), this guy is far from your run-of-the-mill villain. He’s one of those tragic souls who got caught up in powers beyond his control. Created by DC Comics, Effigy was once just a regular guy until a cosmic being called the Controllers decided to experiment on him. Next thing you know, he’s got fire-based powers and a deep resentment for the Green Lantern Corps, especially Kyle Rayner.

Effigy’s been a thorn in the Lanterns’ side ever since, and his unstable personality mixed with his fiery powers makes him an unpredictable foe. He’s a perfect addition to your villain roster if you’ve already collected heroes like Batman or Green Lantern and want to pit them against someone a bit more explosive!

My Thoughts on McFarlane’s Effigy Platinum Edition

I’ll admit it—I wasn’t expecting to be this hyped about an Effigy figure. He’s not a top-tier villain in terms of fame, but that’s part of the charm. McFarlane has a way of making these lesser-known characters feel just as important as the Batmans and Supermans of the world. Plus, the sculpting on this figure is incredible. The flames are what really sell this one for me, along with his haunting facial expression that captures his inner turmoil. I’ve got to say, this is a figure that looks just as good battling Green Lantern as it does standing on its own.

If you’re a hardcore DC fan or just someone who loves unique, rare pieces, this one’s a must-add. Keep your eyes peeled, though—like other Platinum Edition figures, this one will probably be hard to track down!
