Jada Toys Zangief Player 2 Figure Revealed for Ultra Street Fighter II

Jada Toys is giving the Red Cyclone another round in the ring, this time with his alternate Player 2 colours.
The new Zangief Player 2 action figure joins Jada’s growing Ultra Street Fighter II collection. It uses the wrestler’s familiar muscular design, with a different colour scheme inspired by the game.

It’s another chance to own Zangief, but is a change of colour enough to justify buying him twice?

Another Round for the Red Cyclone
Zangief is one of those Street Fighter characters whose design is difficult to get wrong. He’s enormous, covered in scars and built like a professional wrestler.

The Jada Toys Zangief Player 2 figure keeps that familiar appearance, complete with his mohawk, beard and oversized arms. Rather than introducing a completely different design, this release focuses on his alternate arcade colours.

I quite like the idea of these Player 2 figures. Anyone who spent time playing Street Fighter II will remember choosing a character’s second colour, especially when playing against a mate who wanted the same fighter.
It’s a small part of the game’s history, but one that works surprisingly well as a collection.
The Same Wrestler, With Plenty of Posing Options
One thing Zangief needs is decent articulation. His fighting style relies on throws, grapples and powerful wrestling moves, so a figure that can barely move would be rather disappointing.
Jada says this version features articulation designed for recreating his signature moves, including the Spinning Piledriver and Double Lariat.

The accessories also give you several ways to display him. Included are:
- Alternate head sculpt
- Interchangeable hands
- Green right hand
- Effect piece for his Banishing Flat attack
That last accessory is particularly welcome. The Banishing Flat, sometimes called the Green Hand, gives Zangief something different from the usual wrestling poses.

The large shoulders and muscular body could make certain poses tricky, especially when bringing his arms across his chest. It’s something worth checking once the production figure is available.
For now, the promotional images suggest a figure that captures Zangief’s bulky proportions without losing his recognisable appearance. However, they cannot confirm how well the final joints or paintwork will turn out.
Do We Really Need Another Zangief?
This is where things become interesting. The standard Zangief already gives collectors the character and his accessories. If you’re putting together one complete Street Fighter roster, there’s little reason to replace him. However, Jada has been building a second collection around Player 2 colours.

We’ve recently seen the Balrog Player 2 figure, and Vega has also joined the alternate-colour releases. Zangief now gives collectors another familiar fighter to add alongside them.
You can see just how much the range has grown in our Jada Toys Street Fighter checklist.
Personally, I think the Player 2 idea works best when the alternative colours make a noticeable difference. Otherwise, you’re paying for almost the same figure again.
With Zangief, the appeal is more about recreating the arcade experience than getting a better action figure.
Is Zangief Player 2 Worth Buying?
The price will be an important part of that decision. Jada’s standard Zangief was listed at $34.99 in the US, although the price of this exclusive version has not been confirmed.

If it stays close to the original, I can see the appeal for collectors who enjoy displaying both colour schemes. For me, though, this is very much a figure for people already collecting the alternate colours.
I like Zangief, and the sculpt looks good, but I’d struggle to justify owning two unless I was committed to completing the Player 2 range. Still, it’s good to see Jada continuing with these game-inspired alternatives rather than introducing completely unrelated designs.
Would you buy Zangief again for his Player 2 colours, or is one Red Cyclone enough?
