Jada Toys Vega Player 2 Figure Revealed for Ultra Street Fighter II

Vega has always been one of the more interesting characters in Street Fighter to turn into an action figure. Between his mask, claw and acrobatic fighting style, there is plenty to work with beyond a basic standing pose.

Now Jada Toys is giving him the Player 2 treatment, with an alternate colour scheme taken from Ultra Street Fighter II.

The new Jada Toys Vega Player 2 figure keeps the familiar six-inch scale and accessories, but offers another way to display the Spanish fighter.

The Player 2 Look

The appeal of this Vega Player 2 action figure is pretty straightforward. It takes a character collectors already know and brings back one of his alternate looks from the game.

Vega is a good choice for this because his design is instantly recognisable. The mask, long hair, claw and distinctive fighting outfit all help separate him from the rest of the roster. The alternate colours offer something different without losing that identity.

Of course, this is not a completely new figure. If you already have the standard Vega, the colour change is going to be the biggest reason to consider buying him again.

Jada has been steadily expanding its alternate-colour releases, including the recently revealed Balrog Player 2 figure. It is becoming a proper collection within the wider Street Fighter line.

The Claw and Accessories Are Still the Main Attraction

One thing I like about Vega is that his accessories genuinely change how you can display him.

The Ultra Street Fighter II Vega Player 2 figure includes:

• Interchangeable masked and unmasked heads
• Two pairs of hands
• Removable mask
• Detachable claw
• Claw attack effect piece

That is a useful selection rather than a box full of extras you might never use.

Having the option to remove his mask makes a real difference. You can display him ready for a fight or show off the character underneath.

The claw effect is another welcome addition. Vega’s attacks are all about speed and movement, so an effect piece helps capture that side of the character.

The articulation should also be important here. Vega needs enough movement through the shoulders, hips and legs to recreate his unusual fighting style.

Jada’s promotional images suggest plenty of posing potential, although we will need to see the finished production figure before judging how well the joints hold up.

Is Another Vega Worth Buying?

This is where I think the release becomes a more personal choice. Jada’s standard Vega already offers the character’s familiar design, removable accessories and plenty of articulation.

There is no indication that this new release makes major changes to the underlying figure. If you are collecting one version of each character, I would probably stick with the original.

The biggest question is price.

With an exclusive release, I would want the cost to stay fairly close to the standard figure. Paying a significant amount extra for a different paint scheme is harder to justify, even when the character looks good.

There is also the usual question of paint quality. Vega has several areas where clean paintwork matters, particularly around his face, mask and outfit. The promotional shots look promising, but they cannot tell us what the final quality control will be like.

Final Thoughts

I quite like the idea of a second Vega, mainly because his design gives you several interesting ways to pose him.

The removable mask and claw effects are still the strongest parts of the package, and the alternate colours offer something different for a growing Player 2 collection. Would I buy him if I already owned the original? That would depend on the price.

For now, this Street Fighter Vega Player 2 figure looks like a nice alternative rather than an essential replacement.
