The first Marvel Legends and Magic crossover proved Hasbro was willing to charge more for a figure when an exclusive trading card was sitting beside it. Wave 2 now has to prove the idea can offer something worthwhile for Marvel collectors too.
This time, the character choices are far more interesting. Instead of four obvious versions of major heroes, Marvel Legends Magic The Gathering Wave 2 digs into alternate costumes and comic appearances that might have struggled to get regular releases.

For anyone looking for a Marvel Legends x Magic the Gathering Wave 2 checklist, the line-up is Black Panther, Captain America from Avengers: Twilight, Doctor Doom 2099 and Malice.
Black Panther
Black Panther looks like the most complete package of the four.
You get eight accessories, including alternate hands, a Vibranium spear, shield and a hand wearing the Infinity Gauntlet. There is also an alternate head, so you are not stuck with one display option.
The costume itself has a classic comic feel rather than chasing an MCU design. That makes him easier to mix with an existing comic Legends collection.
At $39.99, I still think the price needs explaining. A foil card has value to the right collector, but plenty of Marvel Legends buyers will put it straight back in the box.
Black Panther is also Amazon exclusive in the US and Canada, which may make him the awkward one to track down later.
Captain America From Avengers: Twilight
This is exactly the sort of figure that makes the crossover format more interesting.
Rather than another standard Steve Rogers, Hasbro has gone with the older Captain America from Avengers: Twilight. The aged face, grey hair and removable glasses give him a very different character on display.
There are five accessories, including the shield, alternate hands and another head.
The figure is fully articulated in the usual 6-inch Legends scale, but the real selling point is the design. He looks like Steve after decades of history rather than another slight change to the classic costume.
If you were wondering what is in Marvel Legends MTG Wave 2 that feels genuinely different, this is probably the answer.
Doctor Doom 2099
Doom 2099 is my early favourite.
Marvel Legends has covered Victor plenty of times, but this futuristic armour gives Hasbro something completely different to work with. The silver finish, armour shapes and masked head separate him nicely from the familiar green cloak versions.
He also comes with eight accessories alongside his exclusive foil card.
This is where the Magic the Gathering Marvel Legends figures start making sense as a separate line. Hasbro can use the crossover to release designs aimed directly at comic collectors rather than constantly returning to the safest costumes.
Of course, these are still promotional images. Paint finish, joint tightness and final QC cannot be judged properly until figures are in hand.
Malice Gives Sue Storm Something Different
Malice might be the biggest wildcard.
This is Sue Storm under the influence of the Malice persona, giving us a far darker look than the usual Invisible Woman figure. The black costume and dramatic design should stand apart from a normal Fantastic Four display.
She only gets three accessories, an alternate head and two alternate hands, which makes the $39.99 price harder to swallow than Black Panther’s package.
That said, character selection matters. I would rather see Marvel Legends Magic the Gathering figures take chances like Malice and Doom 2099 than use the crossover as an excuse for endless repaints.
If these releases keep opening the door to stranger corners of Marvel comics, I can see the appeal. I just wish collectors who have no interest in the cards were not paying quite so much for the privilege.
