Mattel has knocked it out of the park again with the Masterverse New Eternia Oversized Horde Trooper Action Figure, launching October 15th, 2024, exclusively on Mattel Creations. As a giant homage to one of the most iconic foot soldiers in the Masters of the Universe (MOTU) universe, this beefed-up figure is sure to stand tall (literally) in your collection.

Standing a solid 9 inches tall—yes, 9!—this beast of a figure features a premium sculpt, updated articulation, and comes with a veritable armoury of interchangeable parts. If you’re a fan of troop builders, you’ll be drooling over the extras, like alternate heads and battle-damage pieces, adding layers of customisation to your shelf display. Who doesn’t love an action figure that lets you re-enact a total battlefield takedown?
Unboxing the Appeal: Why This Horde Trooper Stands Out

From the photos I’ve seen, it’s clear this Oversized Horde Trooper is a brute of a figure. The design borrows heavily from the original ‘80s aesthetic—perfect for us nostalgia buffs—but ramps up the intimidation factor. The sheer size is impressive enough, but the detailing? Oh, baby, we’re talking about some serious love for this villainous army builder.

The red emblem of the Evil Horde, sharp and bold, pops against the figure’s silver armour, instantly catching the eye. The battle-damaged sections? Yeah, they’ve really nailed that worn-down look, as if this Trooper’s seen more than a few skirmishes with He-Man himself. This attention to detail really elevates the figure. It’s not just about size—Mattel clearly wants this to feel like a high-end collectible, not just another rehash of the classic Horde Trooper.

If you’ve already snagged some of Mattel’s previous Masterverse or Origins figures, this one is going to be the perfect complement. Looking for more classic villains? Check out my post on the Demo-Man figure or get a bit rocky with the Rokkon figure.
A Glimpse into the History of the Horde Trooper
To truly appreciate the Oversized Horde Trooper, you’ve got to understand its place in the MOTU lore. Introduced in the 1980s as part of Hordak’s Evil Horde, the original Horde Troopers were the robotic army designed to overwhelm He-Man and his allies. These mindless machines, built for sheer intimidation and numbers, could even collapse when hit hard enough—now that’s a feature I’m surprised Mattel hasn’t revisited!
The Horde Troopers served as the relentless muscle, doing the dirty work while Hordak schemed. Despite their somewhat goofy collapsible nature in the old Filmation cartoon, they became fan favourites for their menacing look. Over the years, the Troopers have evolved, but the basic idea—a mechanical army loyal to Hordak—remains.
This new figure seems to carry that weight of history while updating the classic design for today’s collectors. A fine homage, and one that’ll make a great addition to your Evil Horde shelf!
Is the Oversized Horde Trooper Worth the Hype?
Based on the latest photos, the short answer is yes. If you’re an Evil Horde aficionado or just a collector of MOTU figures, this Oversized Horde Trooper is a must-have. The size and detailing alone make it a centrepiece, but throw in the customisation options, and it’s a figure that just keeps on giving.

Given its exclusivity on Mattel Creations and limited preorder, it’s one of those pieces you’ll kick yourself for missing. And trust me, when this figure hits the secondary market, it’s going to command some serious numbers!
