McFarlane has found a clever way to make one two-pack feel like more than two figures.
The McFarlane Atrocitus Megafig 2 pack puts the Red Lantern leader alongside Rankorr, but the spare heads are what really caught my attention. Swap them around and the same body can also represent Veon or Fury-6. Throw Dex-Starr into the box and suddenly this is less of a normal two-pack and more of a starting point for a Red Lantern display.

One Body, Several Red Lanterns
The DC Multiverse Atrocitus and Red Lantern set includes an 8-inch Rankorr alongside the 9-inch Atrocitus Megafig.
Rankorr gets alternate heads for Veon and Fury-6. Obviously, you cannot display all three characters at once without buying extra sets, but I like the idea. Army and Corps builders have a reason to pick up another pack without simply ending up with an identical figure.
That approach also makes more sense for the Red Lantern Corps than it would for many DC characters. These are meant to be a group.
Dex-Starr is another strong inclusion. He could easily have been left out or saved for another release, so getting him here makes the package feel much more complete.
Atrocitus Looks the Part
Atrocitus needs to look bigger than the Lanterns around him, and the 9-inch Megafig scale gives him that advantage.
The promo images show a suitably heavy build, broad shoulders and an angry head sculpt that fits the character well. The raised Red Lantern emblem also helps break up the large chest area.
There is plenty of black and red, as you would expect, but the sculpted texture across parts of the suit stops the costume looking completely flat.
At this stage we are judging promotional images, so I would not make any promises about final paint or joint quality. Large McFarlane figures can look great once posed, but clean paint around the face, teeth and chest logo will matter on a character this bold.
If you like McFarlane’s larger DC releases, our Solomon Grundy vs Green Lantern 2-Pack is another good example of the company pairing a standard figure with something much bigger.
Is $79.99 Too Much?
This is where the Atrocitus Megafig 2 pack becomes harder to judge.
At $79.99, it is not an impulse buy. You are getting two articulated figures, Dex-Starr, three possible Red Lantern identities, extra hands, a lantern, bases and cards. There is a decent amount in the box.
The problem is that collectors mainly interested in Atrocitus are paying for all that extra line-building material whether they want it or not.
For somebody already putting together a Lantern display, the value makes more sense. Buying multiple packs could even give you Rankorr, Veon and Fury-6 standing together, although you would also end up with several Atrocitus figures.
Collectors following McFarlane’s recent DC releases can also check out the Flash, Superman, Ice and Rocket Red figures to see how much wider the current character selection has become.
A Better Pack for Corps Builders
What makes the Red Lantern corps figure interesting is not any single accessory. It is the way the whole pack works together.
McFarlane could have released Atrocitus with one basic Red Lantern and stopped there. Instead, the interchangeable heads and Dex-Starr give collectors several ways to grow the display.
That makes the McFarlane Red Lantern Corps 2 pack more appealing than a straightforward hero-versus-villain box.
Anyone searching for the DC Multiverse Atrocitus Megafig and Red Lantern Corps 2 pack price will still have to decide whether $79.99 fits their budget. For me, it makes the most sense for Green Lantern collectors who already know they want to build beyond Hal Jordan and the usual characters.

I like what McFarlane has done here. The price stops me calling it an easy purchase, but as a shortcut to building the Red Lantern Corps, the contents are much more interesting than I expected.
