McFarlane Clark Kent Superman The Movie Elite Edition Figure Revealed

Marc
Christopher Reeve’s Superman is one of the most recognisable superhero performances of all time, but it’s his portrayal of Clark Kent that makes this latest McFarlane release interesting.
Rather than another figure of the Man of Steel in his familiar red and blue costume, McFarlane Toys has turned its attention to the mild-mannered reporter from the 1978 film.

The McFarlane Clark Kent Superman The Movie figure joins the DC Multiverse range as a seven-inch Elite Edition release, complete with interchangeable parts and accessories that capture Clark’s everyday appearance.

Christopher Reeve’s Clark Kent Gets the Spotlight
One of the best things about Christopher Reeve’s performance in Superman: The Movie was how differently he played Clark Kent and Superman.

The awkward posture, nervous expressions and slightly clumsy movements made Clark feel like a completely different person. Reeve could change his whole appearance simply by standing up straight and removing his glasses. That’s what makes this figure an interesting addition to the DC Multiverse range.

From the promotional images, McFarlane appears to have focused on Clark’s smart but rather old-fashioned reporter look, complete with his hat, glasses and trench coat. The alternate head and interchangeable shirt pieces should also give collectors a few different ways to display him.
Plenty of Accessories for a Daily Planet Reporter
The Clark Kent Elite Edition figure comes with quite a collection of accessories, many of which are directly connected to the character’s appearance in the film.

Included are:
- Alternate head sculpt
- Removable hat
- Two interchangeable dress shirt attachments
- Wearable glasses and a folded pair
- Soft goods trench coat
- Briefcase and newspaper
- Four additional hands
- Display base
There’s also a full-size replica press badge, which is a nice little extra for anyone who enjoys collecting film memorabilia alongside their figures.

The soft goods trench coat is particularly interesting. Fabric clothing can be difficult to get right at this scale, so it’ll be interesting to see how naturally it sits on the finished figure.
McFarlane lists up to 22 moving parts, giving Clark the same sort of posing options collectors expect from the DC Multiverse range.
Building a Superman Movie Collection
We’ve already seen several manufacturers revisit Christopher Reeve’s Superman films.

Spin Master’s 1978 Superman retro figures take a more traditional toy approach, featuring characters from the early Superman movies with simple articulation and vintage-inspired designs. This McFarlane release goes in a different direction, offering more accessories and posing options.
It’s also a reminder that Superman collecting isn’t always about the costume. Clark Kent, Lois Lane, Lex Luthor and the wider cast are just as important when recreating scenes from the films.
For a completely different interpretation of the character, we’ve also covered Mondo’s Superman: The Animated Series figure, which takes its inspiration from the 1990s cartoon.
Final Thoughts
I like that McFarlane has chosen to make Clark Kent rather than simply releasing another version of Superman.

Christopher Reeve brought plenty of personality to both sides of the character, and this figure gives collectors something a little different from the usual superhero releases.
The interchangeable parts and film-inspired accessories are a big part of the appeal. Being able to recreate Clark’s more awkward moments could make for some entertaining displays.
The real test will be how well the finished head sculpts capture Reeve’s likeness, but the promotional images certainly make this an interesting addition to the Superman movie collection.
