Louis Tully was always going to be an interesting test for Mondo’s Real Ghostbusters line.

He is not one of the original four Ghostbusters, but leave him out and the collection starts to feel incomplete. Pairing him with Grundel solves that problem in a much more interesting way than simply putting Louis in a box on his own.

Louis Finally Feels Like Part of the Team

The big attraction for me is that Louis has not been treated like a simple supporting character.

He gets the proper Ghostbusters setup with a proton pack, particle thrower, stream effect, Ghost Trap, PKE Tracker and Ecto Goggles. There are also smiling and frowning portraits plus two pairs of hands. That gives The Real Ghostbusters Louis Tully figure enough options to look busy rather than just standing at the back of a display.

At 5.9 inches, Louis is shorter than Mondo’s 6.5-inch core Ghostbusters figures, which suits the animated proportions. His slightly awkward uniform shape is also important. Louis should not look like Peter or Ray with a different head stuck on top.

Based on the promo photography, Mondo has understood that.

He should also sit naturally beside Mondo’s Real Ghostbusters Janine, which is where this line is becoming more interesting. We are moving beyond simply finishing the main four.

Grundel Is the Reason the Set Gets Interesting

Louis may be the character many collectors need, but Grundel is the figure that gives this set its personality.

At 7.2 inches tall, he is noticeably bigger, with that long coat, stretched face and deliberately unpleasant cartoon design. Mondo includes neutral, scary and smiling portraits, plus two pairs of hands.

That should allow for several different displays without changing the whole figure.

The transformed Alec accessory is a particularly good inclusion because it ties Grundel back to his episode rather than turning him into a random monster in the collection. The proton-pack Slimer is less essential, but he is exactly the sort of odd extra that suits The Real Ghostbusters.

Is $202 Sensible?

Two hundred and two dollars is still a serious amount of money for action figures.

If you do, the package makes sense. You are getting two large articulated figures, multiple heads and hands, plenty of Ghostbusters equipment, Alec and another Slimer. That is much easier to justify than paying the same amount for two lightly equipped figures.

What I Would Watch Before Release

Everything here is still being judged from official images and display samples, so final QC cannot be called yet.

The paint looks clean in the photography, especially around Grundel’s faces, but production figures are the real test. I would also like to see how much movement survives under Grundel’s long coat. A great sculpt is less useful if the lower body can barely move.

Louis has fewer obvious worries. His design is simpler, although proton packs and effect parts always need decent balance and strong joints.

The $202 price means it is aimed at collectors already committed to Mondo’s line, but the contents feel considered rather than padded. I would mainly be watching the final paint and Grundel’s articulation before calling it a complete win.
