Bass changes the feel of a Mega Man collection straight away. Put him next to Mega Man and you have a proper rivalry rather than another armour colour or weapon variant.
That is why the Threezero MDLX Bass figure feels like an important release for the range. Threezero calls him Forte on the official product page, but English-speaking players will know him as Bass, the rival introduced in Mega Man 7.

The Rival Look Has Come Across Well
Bass needs to look sharper and more aggressive than Mega Man without becoming a completely different style of figure. From the promo shots, Threezero has found a good balance.
The black and grey armour gives him a darker look, while the gold head sections, shoulder pieces and blue chest detail stop everything blending together. His large boots and forearms are still very Mega Man, but the narrower face and pointed armour make the character easy to recognise.
As a Mega Man MDLX Bass Threezero figure, this is probably the biggest success so far. It looks like Bass rather than Mega Man wearing a new colour scheme.
The paint also appears tidy in the reveal photos, especially around the face and smaller armour details. These are development images, though, so final factory paint and joint QC are still unknown.
Built for Bass Poses
The MDLX Bass action figure is only around 10.2 cm tall, but Threezero has fitted in roughly 34 points of articulation.
That should give collectors plenty to work with. The official images show crouched firing poses, running stances and wider leg movement without the figure losing its basic shape. The internal frame also uses metal parts, which should give the small body a little more weight.
You get the Forte Buster, two faces and three pairs of hands covering fists, posing hands and claw-style hands. That is a sensible selection rather than a box packed with parts most people will never use.
There is one obvious omission. Treble is not included. Considering how closely the two characters are linked, some collectors may have preferred the robot wolf over another effect piece.
Standard or Special Edition?
This is where the decision gets interesting.
The regular release includes a two-shot plasma effect. The Special Edition changes that to a three-shot effect, creating a much longer burst from the Buster. Everything else appears to be the same.
For anyone looking for a Mega Man MDLX Bass figure guide before ordering, the Threezero Japan price makes the Special Edition especially tempting. Both versions are listed at 8,450 JPY. The catch is availability, as the Special Edition is being sold through the Threezero Store and selected events.
If your local retailer carries the standard version and saves you international postage or import charges, that could still make it the cheaper option overall.
Bass Makes the MDLX Line More Interesting
This figure also makes earlier releases feel more useful. The Threezero Mega Man Hyper Bomb figure works as a colourful weapon variant, but Bass gives Mega Man somebody meaningful to fight.
Collectors comparing different approaches to the licence can also look at the Hiya Toys Mega Man X Max Armor figure. Hiya goes larger and closer to the X-series game designs, while MDLX keeps things compact with its own mechanical styling.
For me, Bass is more interesting than another Mega Man variant because he expands what you can actually build with the line. The sculpt looks right, the articulation count is strong for the size, and the accessory selection covers the poses that matter.
I would have liked Treble in the box, but the figure itself looks convincing. If the Special Edition really stays at the same base price, the longer firing effect is the version I would look at first, assuming shipping costs do not wipe out the advantage.
