Hasbro Street Fighter Wave 2 Reveals Guile, M. Bison, Dark Ryu and Blanka

Hasbro’s first batch of Street Fighter movie figures gave us some obvious starting characters. Wave 2 is where the line starts getting much more interesting.

Guile, M. Bison, Dark Ryu and Blanka are joining the 6-inch range, giving collectors four very different designs rather than another group of fairly similar fighters.

Pre-orders for the Hasbro Street Fighter Wave 2 figures are due to open through Walmart in the US on 8 October. UK availability has not been confirmed yet.
Guile
The Hasbro Guile action figure is probably the easiest figure here to recognise straight away.

The tall hair, military clothing and broad proportions all give him that familiar Guile shape, even though this is very clearly the movie version of the character.

Hasbro has also given him a decent accessory selection. There are interchangeable hands, a radio and, naturally, Guile’s comb.

The articulation is designed to let him hit poses such as the Flash Kick, which is exactly what you want from a Street Fighter figure. How well those joints actually move will be something to judge once the finished figure is in hand.
M. Bison
The Hasbro M Bison action figure goes in quite a different direction from the classic game design.

This is based on David Dastmalchian’s movie version, so collectors wanting the bright red arcade Bison may still prefer something like Jada’s figures.

What I do like are the Psycho Power hands. You can swap between regular fists and powered-up effects, which immediately gives Bison more display options without filling the box with unnecessary bits.

It should also make him look far more interesting next to Guile than a basic pair of fists would.
Dark Ryu
Dark Ryu could be the most unusual choice in the Hasbro Street Fighter wave 2 checklist.

Rather than giving us another standard Ryu, Hasbro has gone with this darker movie version. He includes interchangeable hands plus five clip-on energy effects.

That sounds generous, particularly if the effects can be moved around to create several attack poses.

The bigger question is whether collectors want another Ryu this early in the line. If you already bought the regular version, this one will probably come down to how much you like the film design and those effects.
For collectors who prefer the game look, our Jada Toys Street Fighter checklist covers the growing Ultra Street Fighter II range.
Blanka
For me, the Hasbro Blanka action figure is the most interesting reveal of the four.

He is being treated as a deluxe figure and comes with an alternative face plus two electrical effect pieces. That makes sense for Blanka, as his electric attacks are such a big part of the character.

The proportions are also completely different from the rest of the wave, giving the line some much-needed visual variety.

Promo images can only tell us so much about the final paint and joint quality, but Blanka certainly looks like the figure with the most personality here.

Jada has taken a much more arcade-inspired route with the character, including its glow-in-the-dark Blanka, so the two lines are offering very different takes rather than directly replacing each other.
Is Wave 2 Worth Picking Up?
Hasbro now has enough characters for this movie range to start feeling like an actual collection rather than a handful of tie-in figures.
The lack of confirmed pricing makes judging value difficult, especially with Blanka being classed as a deluxe release.
If the prices stay sensible, though, this is a stronger assortment than I expected. Guile brings the recognisable design, Bison has some useful effects, Dark Ryu offers something different and Blanka is easily the figure I want to see in hand.
Collectors already deep into Jada’s line, including releases such as the Player 2 Balrog, probably won’t see these as replacements. Hasbro is building around the movie look, while Jada remains much closer to the games.
That distinction might be exactly what gives both collections room to work.
